My parents are leaving for Italy in a few days so yesterday HT and I met up with them for breakfast at one of my favorite places in San Diego, Bernardo Winery.
If you ever have the opportunity to visit San Diego, I highly recommend visiting Bernardo Winery. It is such a quaint little winery in the most unexpected location, nestled among residential neighborhoods in northern San Diego County. A true hidden gem! What I love most about Bernardo Winery is how the winery itself resembles a small town with a tasting room and patio, two cafes, a coffee shop, and various gift shops throughout the grounds. And the hospitality there is amazing! I’ve visited quite a few times and every time I’ve always met such wonderful, genuine people and received great service.
If you do a tasting, they also offer complimentary chocolates to pair with your wine. I did this the first time I visited the winery and it was so much fun! And well, who doesn’t love some chocolate!? 😉 Each tasting, you’ll select your wine and then head down to the chocolate shop and receive a piece of chocolate that pairs perfectly with the wine you selected.
My favorite way to spend the day at Bernardo Winery is to get there early for breakfast at their cafe, Cafe Merlot, and then grab a glass of wine from their tasting room and walk around the grounds. There are so many different places to discover there. If you visit on a Saturday, keep in mind some of these areas may be closed off for weddings or special events, but there are still plenty of other areas to enjoy. Outside of the tasting room there is a shaded patio area and they have live music here every Sunday from 2-5 PM. They also have other events throughout the week or during certain seasons so be sure to check out their website before you visit, www.bernardowinery.com.
