Two weekends ago I went to a bachelorette party and came home on Sunday feeling exhausted. HT was nice enough to start the laundry, but I skipped out on all my usual Sunday prep activities in lieu of trying to make up for the hours of sleep I had lost over the weekend and honestly, not completing those activities totally threw me off the entire week. The whole next week I noticed I had little motivation to work out or eat healthy and was extremely tired even though I got a decent nap on Sunday and went to bed early every night during that following week. This past Sunday it was back to my regular routine and boy, did it make a difference! I woke up every morning super motivated to hit the gym, naturally energized (no coffee needed!), and thoroughly enjoyed and kept to my healthy eating habits. After all, productivity yields productivity.
So, here they are… the 6 things I do on Sunday to ensure I have a productive and healthy week.
1. Grocery Shop
I like to think of Sunday as a fresh start. Maybe the week before I was a little off my game or had an extra indulgent weekend, but Sunday brings a new week and a chance to get back on track. What better day to go grocery shopping? With this mindset, you’re motivated to buy healthy foods. Grocery shopping on Sunday also ensures that I’ll have the freshest ingredients all week (vs. shopping any other weekend day) and that I won’t have to go later in the week. I prefer to get as much as I can done on Sunday so that I’m not having a bunch of errands to run throughout the week and can focus on other things instead, like blogging and, let’s be real, Bachelor in Paradise. 😉
2. Meal Prep
I’ve always been one to make my own meals. I never really went out to eat often until I started dating HT and, well, since then I’ve nearly quadrupled the amount of times I’ve eaten out in my life ever lol. But, I used to just pack my meals the night before or morning of. Then, a few years ago (back before “Meal Prep Mondays” were a thing) I went back to school while still working full-time. I would start my day at 6 AM, go to work during the day, go to class in the evening, get home at 11 PM and then wake up the next morning to do it all over again. With my weekdays so packed, I began meal prepping on Sundays and, even though I finished taking classes years ago, I still meal prep to this day and can’t imagine life without meal prep. It’s such a time saver to prepare your meals in bulk and not have to last minute throw something together. Plus, quick meals usually don’t equal healthy.
3. Clean Up and Organize Your Place
This might just be me, but I really hate starting my week out with a messy home. Like I said, Sunday is a clean slate and I want a clean home to go with it. Being surrounded by a clean, organized environment helps keep your head clear and ready to tackle the upcoming week. Mondays are bad enough as it is – you don’t need to be tripping over things as you’re rushing out the door to work. Start your week on the right foot. Get it? 😉
4. Do Your Laundry from Start to Finish
Wash, dry AND put away your laundry from the previous week. If I don’t do this, the laundry likely sits in the dryer for the whole next week and I pick out my wrinkly clothes as I need them 🙈. I’ll come home every night thinking I’ll put them away, but then just feel too tired and put it off until the next day (which I probably don’t haha). Then I feel lazy because I still didn’t put them away. Funny thing is, somehow if I’ve gotten all these 6 things done on Sunday I come home each night with plenty of energy to get various other things done. I’m telling you if I don’t do these 6 things on Sunday, it’s just a downward spiral lol!
5. Pack Your Gym Bag
Don’t even think about skipping the gym on Monday. If you make an excuse to skip the gym Monday, you’ll likely find excuses to also skip on Tuesday… Wednesday… Thursday and so on. Pack your gym bag as if it’s just another part of your Sunday routine, not as if it’s an option. Monday is actually my favorite day of the week to work out. Sunday is usually my rest day so by the time Monday rolls around, I’m excited to work out again.
6. Go to Bed Early.
There’s nothing worse than starting your week tired so make sure you get to bed early. Being refreshed on Monday keeps you energized and motivated to have a great week!
